Joint Workshop on Sound and Vibration Simulations in Earthmoving Equipment

A joint workshop of the Doosan Bobcat Simulations teams and the Group on Fluids Mechanics led by the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, in the premises of the Doosan Bobcat company in Dobříš. This international event will be attended by the representatives of the top management of the company from the United States and Korea. We managed to organize it thanks to long-term cooperation between Doosan Bobcat and the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences within the Strategy AV21.

The workshop will focus on specific modelling techniques that have the potential of being used in earthmoving equipment sound and vibration simulations, in various parts of the new product development process.  As the practical applications prove, these modelling techniques have limited predictive capabilities due to necessary simplifications in the modelled physics, the computational domain, limited knowledge of all details in complex systems, naturally occurring variations in real-world products etc.

Since all models are approximations, the practical question is not if they are correct, but if they are useful within the context, they are applied, which is the aim of the workshop. To understand the usefulness, it is necessary to establish interdisciplinary cooperation between the practical simulation competency and the theoretical knowledge of the modelling background. In this regard, several specific cases will be reviewed together with experimental data.  Among them an axial fan noise simulation, statistical analysis of operational transmission functions from vibration to noise sources at the operator's site, the analytical solution of microperforated absorbers in the fan casing, the procedure for solving fluid-structure interaction between the cabin and its interior, and others.

Besides the Doosan Bobcat simulation teams from the Czech Republic and the United States, the conference will be attended by representatives of Doosan Technology Institute from Korea, including Won Nyun Kim, the leader of the Virtual Prototyping Group, and Doosan Bobcat development leaders, Troy Kraft, Senior VP Global Engineering and Eric Franco, EMEA Engineering Senior Director. The academic sphere will be represented by Dr Stefan Schoder Head of the Aeroacoustic Group at the Technical University of Vienna and a group of experts from the Czech Technical University, Charles University and the Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences
